LS Swaps: The Industry Standard for a Reason

The GM LS platform remains the most popular engine swap in the classic car world, and we've built enough of them to know exactly why. An LS3 crate engine delivers 430 horsepower out of the box, fits in engine bays designed for big-blocks and small-blocks alike, and has an aftermarket support ecosystem that no other platform can match. Holley Terminator X and MSD Atomic EFI harnesses make the wiring manageable. Adapters from companies like Novak, Advance Adapters, and Silver Sport Transmissions pair LS engines to everything from a Tremec T-56 six-speed to a 4L80E automatic. Motor mount kits from Dirty Dingo, Hooker, and Holley cover the most common GM, Ford, and Mopar chassis applications.

But "bolt-in" is relative. A clean LS swap still requires custom exhaust headers sized to the chassis, a cooling system upgrade with an aluminum radiator and electric fan setup capable of handling North Texas summers, and an ECU tune calibrated to the specific combination of cam, heads, intake, and exhaust on your engine. Ford Coyote 5.0 Swaps

For Ford loyalists, the Coyote 5.0 is the answer. The Gen 3 Coyote makes 460 horsepower with a dual-overhead-cam architecture that revs like nothing else in its displacement class. It's the natural choice for classic Mustangs, Broncos, and F-100s, but it fits a wider range of vehicles than most people expect.

Coyote swaps are more involved than LS swaps on the wiring side. The factory Coyote control pack includes the PCM, wiring harness, and electronic throttle body, but integrating it cleanly into a classic vehicle's dash and gauge cluster takes experience. We've done enough Ford Coyote engine swaps to know where the fitment challenges hide -- oil pan clearance on early Mustang K-members, transmission bellhousing patterns, and accessory drive routing all require planning before the engine goes in, not after.

EFI Conversions: Reliability Without a Full Swap

Not every owner wants a different engine. Some want the engine they already have, just built to start on the first key turn every morning. An EFI conversion replaces the carburetor with electronic fuel injection -- self-tuning, altitude-compensating, cold-start-reliable fuel delivery that eliminates the fiddling that comes with carbureted setups.

Systems like the Holley Sniper, FiTech Go EFI, and Edelbrock Pro-Flo handle the conversion on most V8 platforms with a throttle body that bolts to the existing intake manifold. For owners who want to go further, a complete multi-port EFI conversion with individual injectors and a standalone ECU gives you full control over timing, fueling, and idle quality. Either way, the result is the same: a classic car engine that runs like a modern vehicle.

What Goes Into a Professional Engine Swap

Every swap we complete at our Sherman, Texas shop includes the full list of supporting modifications that separate a professional performance engine installation from a project that stalls in someone's garage:
