Automotive Painter
Spray basecoat, clearcoat, and custom finishes on show-quality classic car restorations in Sherman, TX. $30–$45/hr.
About the Role
Texoma Classics is seeking an experienced Automotive Painter for classic car restoration work at our restoration body shop in Sherman, Texas — approximately one hour north of Dallas. This is a dedicated refinish role: you own the booth and the final finish on show-quality builds.
Responsibilities
- Spray basecoat/clearcoat, single-stage, and custom finishes in a controlled downdraft booth
- Mix, tint, and match colors using our computer-aided matching system
- Final surface preparation before spray — guide coats, masking, and tack-off
- Cut, buff, and polish to a show-quality finish
- Inspect panels and correct runs, orange peel, and dirt nibs
- Maintain spray guns, booth filters, and the mixing room
- Follow OSHA safety regulations and maintain an organized workspace
- Document materials, tasks, and time in computer systems
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience as an automotive painter or refinish technician; classic car restoration preferred
- Strong command of basecoat/clearcoat and single-stage systems; custom work (candy, pearl, metal flake) a plus
- Color matching and tinting experience
- Comfortable spraying complete restorations, not just panel repairs
- Restoration work does not run on a steady spray schedule. On days without a car in the booth, you will work alongside the body team on prep and finish work.
- Personal tools and reliable transportation required
- Portfolio of automotive paint work is required
- Authorization to work in the United States
- High school diploma minimum; 2+ years of relevant experience
