Originally projected to sell 100,000 vehicles annually, the 1965 Mustang surpassed expectations, becoming the most triumphant vehicle release since the 1927 Model A. Unveiled on April 17, 1964 (just 16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), it achieved sales of over 400,000 units in its inaugural year. Within two years of its launch, the one-millionth Mustang had been sold. Ford reached a significant milestone in August 2018 by manufacturing the 10-millionth Mustang. In a remarkable tribute to the original 1965 model, this iconic vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible, equipped with a V8 engine.

Donald N. Frey, Lee Lacocca’s assistant and chief engineer, oversaw the T-5 project’s development within a remarkable 18 months. Lacocca, as Ford Division general manager, passionately supported this initiative. The T-5 prototype, a two-seat roadster, featured a mid-mounted engine powered by the German Ford Taunus V4 engine.

This sturdy vehicle arrived at Texoma Classics for a crucial front frame rail replacement.

Removed tires, brakes, control arms on the driver side. We also got the engine and transmission removed.

The control arms and brakes on the passenger side have been removed, along with the front axle.

We have begun removing the drivers side frame rail.

We have began cutting out the torque box.

We have removed the front clip to better access to the frame rails.

We have removed the doors, convertible top, differential and fuel tank to prepare bracing the body.

The braces have been installed to make sure the body does not get warped while cutting out the entire floor pan.

We have removed the driver’s side frame rail and have welded in the new frame rail.

We have begun to remove the passenger side frame rail.

The passenger side frame rail has been completely removed.

We have removed the center section of the floor pan cut out.

We have completely cut out trunk floor pan.

Starting to cut out the rear portion of central floor pan.

Removed more of floor pan from trunk near wheel wells.
